The Man has changed the company work week to Sunday - Thursday, weekends Friday and Saturday. This gives them less "off" time with the rest of the world, but also works out nicely for me:

1) I can work at K9 on Thursdays when the school is closed, thus not losing a day of "real work;" and
2) We can golf at any time on Saturday when the rest of Dubai is working!
So yesterday was my first Thursday at K9 and although the phones were ringing off the hook, I enjoyed being back helping the poor doggies of Dubai. The Man dropped me off at the kennels so I got a ride with Jackie. She took me as far as today's garage sale site where we perused the junk and helped sort a few things. I had to chuckle when I spotted what I know now as the Quintessential International Garage Sale Item. I chuckled and thought how many times I'd seen this lovely item peddled for $1.50. I, myself, received the identical frame from an ex-boyfriend's mother and have no shame in admitting that it never left the original box and, if I'm not mistaken, I think I re-gifted it. I know. I'm a horrible person. A Re-Gifter. But I'm sure it was re-gifted to a deserving office manager or that awkward girl in the office that brings you a basket of peach scented shower gel for Christmas so you feel obligated to give her something too....
Anyway, I grabbed a taxi after dropping a whopping Dhs. 15 at the sale for a ceramic utinsel canister and a woven basket that will make a nice waste basket in the office.
Last night, we had Bart (Jason guy here from Holland for the conference in Bahrain) and his buddy, [insert name I didn't understand here], (a local the he worked with for a period of time in Germany) over for a steak & shrimp dinner with roasted corn off the grill. Yum!!

So I'm on break between classes at DAA and thought I'd take this time to update. I did get the Drivers License and feel like quite the official resident. The Arabic man that fills out the form, in Arabic, of course, was very chatty with me. He even called up the cafeteria and had them deliver a local pastry snack and a cup of tea to me. He asked for my cell phone number so he could give me a dingle whenever my license was ready to be picked up. Sure enough, he called me today. Whatever. Now he wants to give me lessons in Arabic. I don't think that the guy that fills out government forms is qualified to teach Arabic to a chic from Texas.

I think we've found a car for me. Finally. It was a little more than we were planning to spend, but if I keep getting sub days on a regular basis, it'll even out. It's not brand spankin' new, but I think I'll be lovin' it!
I'm "teaching" secondary Spanish and French today. Tomorrow Psychology and Band. WTF?

It's 9:06 on Sunday morning. Hump day for us. I think I'll go down to Karama to look for a big LV bag. Then I'm supposed to meet this guy to go look at doors. Exciting. Maybe they will finally fix the laundry room situation. I swear I'm going to break my neck pulling laundry out of that sad excuse for a closet.

Gisele and I met at Scarlett's for happy hour yesterday. I really like her - she's Canadian and very down to Earth. It is helpful talking to another girl that has been through this whole "moving to the Middle East and leaving everything behind for a new life" experience. Anyway, she's pretty sweet and I'm glad to have met her. The Man and Dave called on their way home from the office and I convinced them to come join us for a beer and dinner. The Man sounded very tired and really wanting to go home for a rest before hockey, but I twisted his arm.
I've been feeling a little queasy at night... hope I'm not coming down with something.
Oh!!! The Man presented me with two gifts at dinner last night: (1) our liquor license; and (2) my passport with Residence Visa inside! hoorah! Today I'm going to get my eyes tested and try to acquire my Dubai Drivers License. Wheeeee!!!
