Jim and I met our new neighbors last night. We had them over for a steak and wine dinner. They are a very nice Scottish couple with an 18 month old baby. They just moved here from New York and seem to like it. Hoorah - nice, normal neighbors!! The girl is a couple years older than I and looks amazingly similar. Blonde hair, tall, though with a fairer complexion. I'm sure a few months in Dubai will fix that! Anyway, we had a grand time and I'm sure they were as hungover as we were today. Oy.

The Dubai Shopping Festival has begun and I've yet to see much chaos. That being said, I've avoided any mall or shopping arena since January 15th.
We're still working on getting an internet connection in the house. Arrrghhh. Dealing with these people can be a real nightmare. As soon as that's in, the wedding pictures will be up. In the meantime, a friend emailed some pictures she took and I've posted those.
I failed to mention another wedding day highlight:

Jim and I awoke to a strange yelping screetching sound - we thought maybe it was an exotic bird trapped in a wind tower, but when we looked out the window, we saw our little Amstel struggling for her life. She had fallen into the baby pool and was unable to pull herself from the 12 inches of water. Jim ran downstairs to the garden in his boxer shorts and I calmed the pooch from the bedroom window. As soon as she heard my voice and calmed down, she realized she could stand up in the water and would, in fact, live.
Jim brought her up and we wrapped her in a towel to calm her. She shrilled and squeeled as if every bone in her body was broken. We couldn't figure out what exactly was ailing her, other than cold water trauma.
We had no choice but to carry on with the wedding day and leave her with her sister. When we returned the next day, the dog was fine. Jumping up to greet us and begging for bones.
